Let's Discuss a Ballet Class!


6 Hours

In this 6-hour CPD course we will actively discuss, through group discussions and breakout rooms the structure of a ballet class. 

Course Information

  • How much influence does dance medicine have on the way we presently teach? 
  • Have we changed and gone with the times or are we still teaching how it was at the start of the 20th Century?
  • What is Barre Work? How can we vary an exercise in order for it to be beneficial for the lesson? These are just some of the topics which will be discussed
  • There will also be short discussions on the different methods and some comparisons.
  • It's the what, how and why!

Aims

The aims of this webinar are:

  • to discuss and re-evaluate the way a ballet class has developed since the 1800’s 
  • to develop effective teaching strategies based on present dance medicine theories 
  • to explore further styles/methods of classical ballet

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the webinar, you will:

  • have an increased awareness of the evaluation and the development of a ballet class 
  • have an increased understanding of how to develop effective teaching strategies in technique, musicality and performance based on present dance medicine theories 
  • have an increased understanding of further styles/methods of classical ballet

Let's Discuss Music in the Studio!


CPD 12 Hours Online (split over 3x4 hours)

In this 3-part course you increase your knowledge and understanding of time signatures and dance styles. It is not just a theoretical course but a course where there will be discussions on what the music and musicality can positively or negatively do to a movement or an exercise. 

We will be supported with MP3’s for this course from a world-class pianist, Mladen Dabizljevic. Currently, Mladen is based in Switzerland (Zurich University of the Arts), and has a great experience ranging from solo piano repertoire to chamber music, from playing and conducting the great ballet repertoire to the composition of his own music. https://www.mladendabizljevic.com/theballetpianist

 Aims

The aims of this CPD course are to: 

  • develop your abilities to hear and count rhythmically in time signatures and music styles common to ballet class
  • improve your knowledge and understanding of musical forms, structures and introductions
  • increase your confidence in working with varying styles and genres of music in a ballet class
  • to provide skills of how to work with a pianist when needed


Learning Outcomes

On completion of this CPD course you will:

  • have gained a better understanding of being able to count and integrate the use of varied dance styles and time signatures in the ballet class
  • have a greater knowledge of how music can positively influence the teachings of movements and technique and how the dynamic qualities of the movement will change when using different dance rhythms and time signatures
  • have tools to be able to construct a musically secure ballet class based on your lesson plan
  • be able to search much easier for exactly the music you want
  • have gathered new ideas of how to involve a pianist in your classes

Session 1: 4 Hours

Introduction to basic dance styles for the younger children’s age group and introduction to dance styles suitable for the older more advanced student

Session 2: 4 Hours

Online practical session concentrating on using different dance styles and time signatures for barre work, port de bras and adage

Session 3: 4 Hours

Online practical session concentrating on using different dance styles and time signatures for pirouettes and allegro

Let's Discuss Character Dance!


CPD 6 Hours

The course will focus on in-depth knowledge of the Polish and Hungarian style plus the development and build-up of the techniques through basic exercises. There will be an intensive introduction into style required for each country through the use of music, the rhythmic content of the steps and the important elements required to achieve style (hold of body, head and arm positions) and performance. This course will include barre work and short training exercises

Aims

  • Develop an understanding of the appropriate training and style of the technique 
  • Develop an understanding of the different styles and qualities of movement
  • Enhance the use of the music through rhythms and phrasing
  • Develop performance skills

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding required for each style
  • Perform with rhythmic accuracy and excellent phrasing of the music
  • Perform with expression and confidence
  • Develop own exercises further to enhance the understanding of the style required per dance
